According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided fresh updates on Alejandro Balde and JJ Gabriel, two players whose futures have been linked with Manchester United.
United are experiencing a difficult season and could look to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window, particularly in the left-back and centre-forward positions.
Benjamin Šeško is also expected to remain unavailable through injury until the new year, increasing the club’s concerns in attack.
Manchester United explored a move for Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde last summer after failing to secure Lewis Hall.
However, negotiations did not progress because Balde wanted to remain at Barcelona and fight for his place, while the Spanish club reportedly preferred a permanent sale rather than a loan arrangement. United were also unwilling to meet the proposed transfer fee and the defender’s wage demands.
Balde’s situation at Barcelona has since become more difficult, with the 23-year-old struggling to secure regular playing time and falling down the club’s left-back pecking order.
Romano believes the defender could be one to watch when the January transfer window opens, particularly if Barcelona receive a suitable offer. However, any potential move will also depend on Balde’s willingness to leave.
“Balde is almost never playing,” Romano said on his YouTube channel, adding that the defender’s future needs to be discussed. He also explained that Barcelona had been open to selling the player during the summer, but no agreement was reached.
Although Manchester United have not confirmed any renewed interest, Balde’s reduced role at Barcelona could make a January transfer more realistic than it was during the previous window.
Romano also discussed the situation surrounding United youngster JJ Gabriel, who is reportedly still considering leaving Old Trafford.
According to the transfer journalist, Real Madrid are currently leading the race to sign the youngster, while Paris Saint-Germain have turned their attention towards other targets.
However, the situation remains unresolved, with several other clubs potentially capable of joining the pursuit.
Romano explained that Gabriel cannot officially complete a transfer before January 1, although Real Madrid are continuing discussions and remain interested in securing his signature.
