Chelsea are widening their search for midfield reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, with Myles Lewis-Skelly, Josh King, Harrison Armstrong and Lewis Miley reportedly among the players being monitored. Although Bournemouth’s Alex Scott remains their preferred target, the club is assessing alternative options in case negotiations prove difficult.
According to a report from FootballTransfers on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Chelsea have identified the four young English players as possible additions while planning to strengthen the centre of their midfield. Xabi Alonso’s side are expected to explore the market during the winter window and could return with an improved proposal for Scott after failing to secure his signature during the summer.
Chelsea reportedly had several offers rejected by Bournemouth in the previous transfer window. However, the south-coast club could be willing to reconsider its position if the Blues present a bid worth approximately €120 million. Scott remains the leading name on Chelsea’s shortlist, but the scale of the proposed fee means the club is examining other possibilities.
Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips has reported that the club is keeping track of Lewis-Skelly, King, Armstrong and Miley. Their combined estimated transfer value is €131.6 million. The Blues have also reportedly dispatched scouts to assess the quartet.
Lewis-Skelly has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months. However, convincing Arsenal to part with the England international could prove challenging. The young midfielder has re-established himself as an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad, making a departure difficult to negotiate unless a substantial offer is presented.
King, Armstrong and Miley have also attracted attention. All three represent England at Under-21 level and have impressed for Fulham, Everton and Newcastle United respectively.
King has additionally been linked with Liverpool, indicating that Chelsea could face competition if they decide to pursue the Fulham player. Armstrong’s situation is also worth monitoring, as Nottingham Forest reportedly attempted to sign him during the summer. Everton rejected that proposal, demonstrating their reluctance to lose the young midfielder.
Miley, meanwhile, previously attracted interest from Manchester United. United monitored his progress but did not submit a formal offer. Chelsea’s reported attention could therefore introduce another potential contender for the Newcastle player’s signature.
The shortlist gives Chelsea several profiles to compare, allowing the club to assess availability, development and cost before deciding where to focus recruitment.
The Blues are expected to prioritise new arrivals in January and are not currently anticipated to approve many permanent departures. Nevertheless, Jamie Gittens could be among the players whose futures receive attention after his proposed summer move to Roma collapsed before completion.
Chelsea may also consider loan proposals for Aaron Anselmino, who has been unavailable since suffering an injury during pre-season. A temporary move could provide an opportunity for the defender to regain fitness and secure regular playing time.
Despite reported interest from several major European sides, Estevão Willian is not expected to leave Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s immediate focus remains on strengthening the midfield, with Scott still their principal objective and four younger alternatives under observation.
