Arsenal 'to make January move' for Champions League goal machine who nearly joined Liverpool

Arsenal are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi during the January transfer window as doubts continue to surround Viktor Gyokeres’ long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Premier League champions have identified the 22-year-old Germany Under-21 international as a potential reinforcement for Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Tresoldi has enjoyed an impressive campaign, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions, including four goals in two Champions League matches.

His excellent performances have reportedly caught Arsenal’s attention as the club evaluates its attacking options and considers possible additions during the upcoming transfer window.

The striker found the net against Aston Villa in September before scoring in Club Brugge’s thrilling 4-3 Champions League victory over Inter Milan, further enhancing his reputation as an emerging talent in European football.

Arsenal’s reported interest comes amid speculation that Gyokeres could consider leaving the club in January after struggling to obtain regular playing time under Arteta. The Sweden international’s difficulties over the past year have raised concerns about his long-term role within the squad.

Consequently, Tresoldi could become a potential replacement or alternative attacking option if Arsenal decide to strengthen their forward line. However, no agreement has been announced, and the north London club could face competition from other interested teams.

Club Brugge reportedly turned down a £30 million offer from Roma during the summer transfer window, with the Belgian club now believed to value the striker at approximately £42 million.

Arsenal’s existing relationship with Club Brugge could potentially help facilitate negotiations. The Gunners signed winger Christos Tzolis from the Belgian side for £35 million during the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are not alone in their pursuit of Tresoldi, as Italian giants AC Milan are also reportedly monitoring his situation. The striker’s childhood support for Milan could potentially give the Serie A club an advantage in the race for his signature.

Tresoldi also previously came close to moving to Liverpool because of his family’s circumstances.

His father, Emanuele, revealed that his wife’s career in civil aviation nearly resulted in the family relocating to Merseyside before they eventually moved to Hanover, Germany. It was there that the young striker began developing his football career with Hannover 96.

Explaining how the family’s circumstances shaped his son’s early football journey, Emanuele said:

"It all happened by chance. We have traveled a lot for my wife's job, who deals with civil aviation. At one point it seemed like we had to move to Liverpool.

"Instead, we had to go to the headquarters in Hanover, where Nicolo showed that he could be a footballer."
