Atletico Madrid have reportedly entered the race to sign Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez, adding competition for Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
According to Spanish reports from AS, Diego Simeone is interested in bringing the Argentine defender to Madrid as Atletico consider strengthening their defence.
Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 but has faced questions over his performances this season. Reports of disagreements with the club's hierarchy have also added uncertainty about his long-term future at Old Trafford.
His current contract situation could become important, with United reportedly holding an option to extend his deal by another year. This could give the club greater control over any potential transfer.
Barcelona are also monitoring Martinez as they look to strengthen their options at centre-back.
A move to Atletico could allow the 28-year-old to work under fellow Argentine Diego Simeone. Reports have also linked him with a possible partnership with international teammate Cristian Romero.
Meanwhile, Italian clubs including Como, Inter Milan and Roma have also been mentioned as potential destinations.
With interest reportedly coming from Spain and Italy, Martinez's future could become one to watch in the next transfer window.
Manchester United's contract decision and the defender's own preference may influence what happens next. However, no agreement with any club has been confirmed.
