According to a report by Football London on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Chelsea could regret selling Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after the Everton midfielder revealed that he is closer than ever to earning an England call-up under manager Thomas Tuchel.
Dewsbury-Hall has attracted Tuchel’s attention following his impressive performances since leaving Stamford Bridge for Everton.
The midfielder joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2024 for a reported £30 million after previously working with former Blues head coach Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium.
However, he struggled to secure regular Premier League football during his only season in west London, making 13 appearances in the competition and 36 across all competitions, including 15 in the Europa Conference League.
He eventually joined Everton for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £29 million, seeking more consistent playing time and an opportunity to progress in his career.
Explaining his decision to leave Chelsea in an interview with The Guardian, Dewsbury-Hall said: "I’m in the prime years of my career. I couldn’t afford to spend more years stagnating."
His decision appears to be paying off, with the 28-year-old now attracting attention from England manager Tuchel ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Dewsbury-Hall confirmed that he had received messages informing him that he remained under consideration for international selection, including a place on the long list for the World Cup squad.
"I know I’m the closest I have ever been now," the midfielder said. "You get a message two weeks before the squad is announced.
"I got one for the long list for the World Cup and I’ve had one for these next games. It’s nice. It means you are doing OK. It’s a long, long message.
"It tells you that it’s a legal requirement for us (the Football Association) to tell you in advance that you are in contention and to be available for these dates.
"It’s a good feeling because you think: ‘OK, I am close,’ but you know you have to keep pushing it to the last minute. It’s up to me.
"It’s got to be me that forces his hand to choose me. It’s not going to be given to me."
Dewsbury-Hall’s progress could raise questions about Chelsea’s decision to sell him after just one season. However, his limited opportunities under the club’s previous management made his departure understandable, particularly given his desire to play regularly.
