Ruben Amorim planning reunion with Man Utd star at AC Milan

AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Leny Yoro next summer, a move that could reunite the French centre-back with Ruben Amorim, who previously worked with him at Old Trafford.

According to reports from Italy, Milan are looking to reinforce their defence after conceding 12 goals in their opening 10 matches of the season. The Serie A side are understood to be planning a two-phase recruitment strategy, with Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae among their potential targets for the January transfer window and Yoro emerging as a leading candidate for next summer.

Amorim’s previous experience working with Yoro at Manchester United could influence Milan’s interest in the 20-year-old. The manager was in charge at Old Trafford between November 2024 and January 2026, giving him an opportunity to assess the defender’s qualities and potential.

However, any attempt to bring Yoro to Italy could involve considerable expense. Manchester United are reportedly expected to demand between €40 million and €50 million, equivalent to approximately £33.5 million to £41.9 million, if Milan decide to pursue a transfer.

United signed Yoro from Lille in July 2024 for a fee of €62 million, or around £52.2 million. His current contract runs until the summer of 2029, and the club have the option to extend the agreement by an additional year. Those terms give United significant control over his future and place them in a strong position during any negotiations.

The France international has made 73 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring once. He has started United’s last three matches and has also been deployed at right-back on two occasions, demonstrating his ability to cover different defensive positions.

Nevertheless, Yoro’s recent run of appearances included a difficult moment when he was sent off during United’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on October 13. Despite that setback, Milan are reportedly continuing to assess him as they consider their defensive recruitment plans.

Yoro is not the only Manchester United player linked with a possible move to Milan. Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee has also reportedly attracted interest from the Italian club as he faces uncertainty over his role at Old Trafford.

Zirkzee joined United from Bologna in July 2024 for €43.5 million, approximately £36.5 million. However, he has scored only 10 goals in 82 appearances, leaving questions about his effectiveness and long-term prospects in the team.

The Netherlands international has struggled to secure a regular starting position despite Benjamin Sesko’s absence. Manager Michael Carrick has recently preferred Bryan Mbeumo in the central attacking role, further restricting Zirkzee’s opportunities to establish himself.

Zirkzee did find the net after coming on as a substitute in United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, but his future remains uncertain amid continued speculation over possible departures.

Manchester United’s wider situation could also influence their transfer decisions. Carrick is reportedly under pressure following a difficult opening to the campaign, with the club managing only two victories in their first 11 matches.

Whether Milan can secure either player remains unclear, but their reported interest suggests they are considering Manchester United as a potential source of reinforcements ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
