According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Monday, October 19, 2026, Manchester United have appointed an experienced communications manager as frustration continues to grow among supporters over the men’s team’s poor performances under head coach Michael Carrick during the 2026/27 season.
Carrick earned the permanent managerial role after an impressive interim spell last season, when he guided United to third place in the Premier League and helped the club secure qualification for the Champions League.
However, the team has struggled to maintain that momentum this season, winning only two of their first ten competitive matches. Those victories came against newly promoted Ipswich Town and Champions League newcomers Sabah FK.
United’s performances have been marked by defensive mistakes, missed scoring opportunities and a lack of consistency. They conceded a late equaliser against Tottenham before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their next European fixture.
A subsequent 1-1 draw against Leeds United extended their winless run to six games, intensifying questions about Carrick’s future and fuelling speculation over possible replacements at Old Trafford.
Antonio Conte is among the experienced managers reportedly linked with the position. The Italian coach has won league titles with Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli. Reports also indicate that representatives acting on his behalf have communicated his interest in taking over from Carrick.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have officially appointed Emily Brammeier as their new communications manager, with responsibility for overseeing communications for the women’s team. She joins the club after spending ten years working in professional cycling.
Brammeier confirmed her appointment in a LinkedIn post, describing the move as an exciting new chapter in her career. She expressed her enthusiasm for leading the women’s team’s communications activities and contributing to the continued development of women’s football.
Her role will include creating communication strategies, reaching wider audiences and highlighting stories about Manchester United Women’s players. She also expressed appreciation to the colleagues who made her feel welcome during her first week at the club.
However, Brammeier’s appointment is limited to the women’s communications department and has no connection to the managerial uncertainty surrounding the men’s team. Carrick remains in charge of United’s first team despite increasing pressure following their disappointing results this season.
