Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have given their supporters another reason to celebrate after recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The victory was not an easy one, as the Ghanaian side had to wait until the closing stages of the match to secure all three points. With the game appearing to be heading for a draw, Beline Nyarkoh stepped forward to score the winning goal and keep Ampem Darkoa’s impressive run alive.
The two teams met on Thursday, November 5, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt, in a Group B encounter. Both sides had won their opening matches and were determined to build on their strong starts.
Ampem Darkoa made their intentions clear early in the game. Nancy Amoh opened the scoring in the ninth minute after taking advantage of a mistake by the Kawempe goalkeeper. Her goal gave the Ghanaian champions an early lead and placed pressure on their Ugandan opponents.
However, Kawempe refused to give up. The Ugandan side gradually found its rhythm and began to challenge Ampem Darkoa. Their efforts paid off in the 33rd minute when Shadia Nabirye found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
The equaliser changed the mood of the contest, with both teams knowing that another goal could make the difference. The first half ended with the two sides level.
After the break, Kawempe enjoyed more possession and tried to take control of the match. However, despite having periods of dominance, they struggled to create clear chances that could put them ahead.
Ampem Darkoa remained patient and continued looking for an opportunity to regain the lead. Their determination finally paid off in the 84th minute when Beline Nyarkoh scored the decisive goal, sending the Ghanaian team ahead once again.
The late strike proved enough to secure a 2-1 victory and give Ampem Darkoa their second consecutive win in the competition.
The result takes the Ghanaian champions to six points from two matches, following their impressive 5-1 victory over Mali’s USFAS Bamako in their opening game. They have now strengthened their position in Group B and moved closer to securing a place in the semi-finals.
Their next group-stage challenge will be against Moroccan giants AS FAR, a match that could further test their ambition in the competition.
