Liverpool Open Talks to Land €55m Star as First January Signing

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Liverpool have reportedly contacted the representatives of AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as they explore the possibility of strengthening their squad during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old Senegal international attracted strong interest from Chelsea last summer, with a reported €55 million deal nearing completion on deadline day before Monaco eventually withdrew from the agreement.

Chelsea have since turned their attention to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, potentially giving Liverpool a clearer opportunity to pursue Camara’s signature.

According to The Sun, Liverpool have asked to be kept updated on developments surrounding the midfielder.

The Reds had been monitoring Camara before the start of the 2026–27 season, and he is now understood to be among their leading midfield targets.

Liverpool’s interest comes as the club evaluates its long-term options in midfield. Alexis Mac Allister’s future at Anfield remains uncertain, and signing a young, versatile midfielder could help the team prepare for potential changes to its squad.

Camara has made 12 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring twice and providing one assist.

Monaco would reportedly prefer to retain the midfielder until the summer, although a January departure has not been ruled out.

Liverpool are continuing to monitor the situation as they assess whether a deal could be completed during the winter transfer window.

Scott is also on Liverpool’s radar, although Chelsea are believed to be leading the race for the England international.

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has also been linked with a move to Anfield, but speculation surrounding his potential departure has eased since the summer transfer window closed.

Midfield recruitment may not be Liverpool’s only priority in 2027. The club is also expected to consider signing a central defender, with captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract due to expire next summer.

Although a new agreement remains possible, Liverpool are reportedly keen to identify a long-term successor for the Dutch defender.

One option could be to explore the buy-back clause in Jarell Quansah’s contract at Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool have also been linked with Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemovic as they continue to assess their defensive plans.
