According to a report by London Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Manchester United have been handed a potential injury setback ahead of their Champions League clash against Como, with Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez among several key players who missed Tuesday’s training session.
Michael Carrick’s side are set to travel to Italy on Wednesday to face Cesc Fabregas’ team at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. United will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on the second matchday of the Champions League league phase.
The encounter will mark the first competitive meeting between Manchester United and Como after UEFA approved the Italian club’s stadium to host the fixture.
However, Carrick could face a difficult selection dilemma, with as many as ten senior players potentially unavailable for the trip. Several first-team regulars were absent when United trained at Carrington on Tuesday morning.
Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford were among those missing, raising doubts about their availability for Wednesday’s European fixture.
Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven had already missed United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United over the weekend. Martinez, meanwhile, was forced off at half-time during the match after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford’s absence has also raised concerns, particularly as he was an unused substitute against Leeds. Carrick had previously revealed that the England international was dealing with a minor fitness problem.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the Manchester United head coach explained when discussing the forward’s condition.
United’s injury problems extend beyond the five players who missed Tuesday’s training session. Long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte were also unavailable, alongside third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
Defender Leny Yoro will also miss the Como fixture, although his absence is due to suspension rather than injury. The French defender must serve a ban following his red card against Atletico Madrid in Spain.
With several players facing fitness concerns and others already ruled out, Carrick may have to make significant changes to his starting lineup for Wednesday’s Champions League encounter.
The United manager is expected to provide a detailed update on the team’s condition during his press conference on Tuesday evening at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. A Manchester United player will also accompany him as the club prepares for the important fixture.
Until Carrick provides further clarification, the availability of Rashford, Martinez and the other players who missed training remains uncertain, leaving Manchester United waiting for answers ahead of their trip to Italy.
