Barcelona considering making offer to sign Man United star

According to a report by Barca Blaugranes on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez in the summer of 2027 as they prepare to strengthen their defence for the 2027–28 season.

Spanish outlet El Desmarque reports that Barcelona are monitoring the Argentine international's contract situation as they consider possible defensive reinforcements.

Martinez's current deal with Manchester United is reportedly set to expire next summer. However, Barcelona's chances of signing him could depend on whether United activate an option to extend his contract by another year.

If the Premier League club decides against extending the deal, Barcelona could attempt to sign the defender on a free transfer. Reports suggest the Spanish side could make an initial approach before the end of 2026.

Martinez's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, especially if his contract situation is not resolved by January. He could then become eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England, subject to the applicable transfer rules.

Barcelona reportedly value the 28-year-old's experience and his ability to play as a left-footed centre-back. His defensive qualities could make him an attractive option as the club plans for the coming season.

Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 and has become an important part of their defence when fit. However, speculation about his future has continued amid questions about the club's performances and his long-term position.

Recent reports have also claimed that Martinez criticised Manchester United's senior management following their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. However, these alleged remarks do not necessarily mean he wants to leave Old Trafford.

Barcelona's interest will depend partly on United's decision about the defender's contract. It also remains unclear whether Martinez would be willing to leave the Premier League for a new challenge in Spain.

No official offer or agreement has been reported, meaning the potential transfer remains speculative. His contract situation could play a major role in determining his future ahead of the summer 2027 transfer window.
