AST 2-1 MCI: Match Review And Latest Premier League Table

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Aston Villa claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League at Villa Park, ending the visitors' unbeaten start to the season.

Villa made a strong start to the encounter and took the lead in the sixth minute through Nicolas Jackson. The striker finished brilliantly into the top left corner after receiving an excellent pass from John McGinn, giving the hosts an early advantage.

Manchester City responded by dominating possession and searching for an equaliser. However, Villa remained organised defensively, while goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made important saves to deny Rayan Cherki and Iliman Ndiaye.

Ndiaye came close to restoring parity in the 28th minute when his powerful effort from outside the penalty area struck the left post. City continued to apply pressure, but Villa defended effectively to maintain their lead until half time.

The visitors eventually found an equaliser seven minutes into the second half. Erling Haaland rose inside the penalty area to head home an inviting delivery from Ndiaye in the 52nd minute, bringing City back into the contest.

Jeremy Doku nearly completed the comeback shortly afterwards, but his effort from the edge of the penalty area narrowly missed the target. Manchester City appeared increasingly dangerous in attack, although Villa continued to threaten on the counter.

Jackson delivered another decisive moment in the 60th minute when he restored Villa's lead with a composed finish into the bottom right corner after receiving an excellent pass. His second goal put the hosts back in front and increased the pressure on the visitors.

Manchester City attempted to respond through sustained possession and attacking pressure. Josko Gvardiol headed narrowly wide in the 66th minute, while Doku also tried to create opportunities. However, Villa's defence remained disciplined and dealt with the danger.

Despite controlling possession for periods of the match, City struggled to find another equaliser during the closing stages. Villa defended resolutely and managed the remaining minutes to protect their advantage.

The final whistle confirmed a valuable 2-1 victory for Aston Villa, with Jackson's brace proving decisive. The result handed Manchester City their first Premier League defeat of the season and provided Villa with an important boost in their campaign.
