André Onana’s improved performances in Turkey have reportedly attracted interest from Galatasaray, potentially creating competition with Trabzonspor for the Manchester United goalkeeper’s signature. Trabzonspor are understood to be interested in retaining the Cameroon international permanently after his loan spell, but the Istanbul club could complicate their efforts to secure his services.
Manchester United signed Onana from Inter Milan in 2023 for approximately €50 million, expecting him to become David de Gea’s long-term successor. However, a series of costly errors during his time at Old Trafford undermined his confidence and raised concerns about his suitability for the role. By 2025, uncertainty had grown over his future with the Premier League club.
The situation became more difficult for the goalkeeper following the arrival of Senne Lammens last summer. United’s decision to bring in another goalkeeper further reduced Onana’s chances of reclaiming the first-choice position, increasing the likelihood that he would need to continue his career elsewhere.
A loan move to Trabzonspor subsequently provided him with an opportunity to rebuild his reputation. His performances in Turkey have reportedly been encouraging, helping him regain attention after a difficult period in England. Trabzonspor are now said to be keen to turn the temporary arrangement into a permanent transfer.
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to consider selling Onana for around €10 million next summer. That figure would represent a substantial reduction from the €30 million to €40 million valuations previously discussed, as the club looks for a practical solution to his situation and an opportunity to recover part of its original investment.
However, Trabzonspor may now face competition from Galatasaray. According to reports from Africa Foot, the Istanbul-based club have begun monitoring the 30-year-old as they assess their goalkeeping options.
Galatasaray’s reported interest adds an interesting dimension to the situation because Trabzonspor turned to Onana after their rivals signed former Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır for a reported €30 million. The possibility of Galatasaray pursuing Onana could therefore lead to a transfer contest between the Turkish clubs.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Onana is believed to be comfortable at Trabzonspor. The club’s ambitions and its encouraging start under manager Thomas Reis could help convince him to remain beyond his current loan arrangement. Nevertheless, interest from Galatasaray may influence the negotiations and give the goalkeeper another option to consider.
Manchester United must also weigh the financial implications of their decision. Onana’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in 2028, meaning the club could view next summer as an opportunity to sell while there is still time to secure a transfer fee. Delaying a decision could leave United facing greater uncertainty over his value and long-term plans.
After struggling to establish himself in England, Onana’s renewed form in Turkey has improved his prospects of securing a permanent move. Whether he remains with Trabzonspor or considers an offer from Galatasaray, his future is likely to depend on the clubs’ negotiations and his own preferences.
For United, a sale would provide an opportunity to recover some of the money spent on the goalkeeper, although the reported €10 million asking price would fall well below their original outlay. No permanent transfer has been confirmed, leaving Onana’s next move uncertain as the summer window approaches.
