FIFA Raises Women’s World Cup Preparation Funding to $2.5 Million Per Team, Promises Equal Services

According to a report by GHOne TV, on Friday October 23, 2026, FIFA has announced an increase in preparation funding for teams participating in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup to $2.5 million per team, in a move aimed at strengthening preparations and improving support for women’s football ahead of the global tournament.

The increased funding is expected to provide participating national teams with additional resources to prepare their players, organise training camps, arrange friendly matches and address other essential needs before the competition begins.

The announcement also comes with a commitment from FIFA to provide services for the women’s tournament on an equal footing with those available at the men’s World Cup, reinforcing efforts to reduce disparities in the treatment and support of the two competitions.

The decision was approved by the Bureau of the FIFA Council following a meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 15, 2026. FIFA announced the new financial distribution framework on October 22, outlining measures intended to benefit participating national associations, players and clubs.

Under the revised arrangement, each of the 32 national teams expected to compete at the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil will receive $2.5 million in preparation funding.

The allocation brings the total preparation fund to $80 million, compared with approximately $31 million for the 2023 edition.

The increased support is expected to help national football associations meet the financial demands of preparing their teams for one of the biggest events in international women’s football.

The funding will form part of a broader financial model that includes tournament prize money and the FIFA Club Benefits Programme, which provides financial benefits to clubs whose players participate in FIFA competitions.

Beyond the increase in preparation money, FIFA has committed to providing players at the 2027 Women’s World Cup with the same level of services offered to their male counterparts at the 2026 Men’s World Cup.

The commitment is significant because travel, accommodation and other player welfare arrangements have featured in discussions about the treatment of women footballers at major international competitions.

Reports on the new measures indicate that players will be guaranteed business-class or chartered flights and individual hotel rooms, bringing key travel and accommodation provisions into line with those provided at the men’s tournament.

The measures form part of FIFA’s wider effort to improve conditions for women footballers and strengthen the professional environment surrounding the women’s game.

FIFA has also indicated that any surplus generated by the 2027 Women’s World Cup will be distributed among the participating member associations, with a specific portion reserved for players.

The full details of the financial distribution arrangement, including the tournament’s prize-money structure, are expected to receive further consideration at the next FIFA Council meeting in December 2026.

The final arrangements will help determine how the increased financial commitment translates into benefits for national teams and individual players.

The 2027 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Brazil, will be another major opportunity for FIFA to expand the global reach of women’s football while addressing calls for better investment and improved playing conditions.

With preparation funding now matching the per-team allocation provided for the 2026 men’s tournament, FIFA’s latest decision represents a significant step towards greater equality in the resources and services available to participating teams.
