Manchester United are reportedly considering reviving their interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as head coach Michael Carrick evaluates possible attacking additions ahead of the January transfer window. A report published by Sports Mole on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, suggests the Senegal international could become a target if uncertainty over his future at Selhurst Park continues.
The 28-year-old has yet to decide whether to accept Palace’s contract extension offer, potentially leaving the door open for other clubs to pursue him when the transfer market reopens. Although his representatives are reportedly satisfied with the proposed terms, Sarr has not committed to extending his current agreement.
According to TEAMtalk, United have continued monitoring the winger after previously considering a move for him during the summer. His ability to operate in several attacking positions could make him an attractive option for INEOS as the club seeks to improve the depth and flexibility of Carrick’s squad.
Sarr reportedly sought an exit from Palace during the previous transfer window, with Turkish giants Galatasaray showing interest. However, the Eagles rejected the club’s approach before bringing the winger back into their first-team plans.
Sunderland and Newcastle United have also been linked with the Senegalese attacker. Meanwhile, clubs in Turkey and the Saudi Pro League could provide alternative destinations if negotiations over his long-term future fail to produce an agreement.
Palace remain in a strong negotiating position because Sarr’s existing contract runs until 2028. The London club reportedly valued him at £50 million during the summer and turned down Galatasaray’s initial proposal, suggesting that any potential deal could require a substantial financial commitment.
United’s interest is understood to stem partly from Sarr’s versatility. In addition to his ability to play on either flank, he has demonstrated that he can operate centrally, including during Senegal’s 2026 World Cup campaign. His pace and direct attacking style could give Carrick another option for stretching opposition defences and creating opportunities.
The winger could also provide cover in attacking areas behind Bruno Fernandes. United have regularly relied on their captain for creativity, sometimes deploying him on the right to accommodate different tactical arrangements. Signing a versatile forward could reduce that dependence and give the manager greater flexibility.
United’s recent injury concerns have further highlighted the importance of squad depth. Several players, including Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro, were unavailable for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Como. Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko were also reportedly absent.
Although Sarr would not resolve the club’s defensive problems, his arrival could strengthen its attacking options and ease the workload on available forwards.
United could reconsider a January move if the winger declines Palace’s proposed extension. However, his final decision, Palace’s willingness to negotiate and the reported £50 million valuation will all influence whether a transfer becomes achievable.
