Turkish tactician Kasim Gokyildiz has stepped down as head coach of Heart of Lions following a disappointing opening to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
His departure comes after just eight league fixtures, during which the Kpando-based club managed only one victory, alongside two draws and five defeats. The results have earned the team eight points, leaving them just one point clear of the relegation zone.
The club’s poor run of form has raised concerns about its league position, with the team facing increasing pressure to turn its season around.
Gokyildiz returned to Ghana before the start of the current campaign after agreeing to a one-year deal with Heart of Lions, which included an option to extend the contract.
He took over from Ghanaian coach Bashir Hayford, whose contract with the club expired at the end of his tenure.
The Turkish coach is familiar with Ghanaian football, having previously worked with King Faisal, Bechem United and Hohoe United before assuming responsibility at Heart of Lions.
His resignation leaves the club needing a new manager to guide the team through the remainder of the season and help it move away from the relegation-threatened positions.
Heart of Lions will next welcome Bechem United to the Kpando Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 1, for their Matchday Nine encounter.
The fixture presents an opportunity for the team to respond to its difficult start as it seeks to secure valuable points and improve its standing in the league.
