Turkey: Osimhen’s absence rivals’ only hope of beating Galatasaray to title – Sabuncuoglu

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Turkish football pundit Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has suggested that Galatasaray's rivals may need Victor Osimhen to be out of action for around two months if they hope to have a realistic chance of winning the Turkish Super Lig title.

Sabuncuoğlu believes the Nigerian striker has become so important to Galatasaray that a lengthy absence could seriously affect the club's chances of retaining the championship.

The pundit argued that other Turkish clubs would find it difficult to compete with the Istanbul giants as long as Osimhen remains available to lead their attack.

According to him, an extended injury layoff for the former Napoli forward could create an opportunity for rival teams to close the gap and challenge Galatasaray for the league title.

"If a team wants to become champion in this league besides Galatasaray, they have to hope Osimhen gets injured and doesn't play for 2 months at Galatasaray, so we see a fairly long stretch of Galatasaray without Osimhen," Sabuncuoğlu said, as quoted by Krampon Sports.

Galatasaray currently lead the Turkish Super Lig table with 25 points from their opening 10 matches.

The Turkish champions have continued to dominate the domestic competition, winning the league title in each of the last two seasons following Osimhen's arrival.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the club's most influential players, with his contributions in attack making him a key figure in their pursuit of further success.

Osimhen's presence has also strengthened Galatasaray's attacking options, making the possibility of losing him for several weeks a major concern for the club.

Sabuncuoğlu's remarks highlight the Nigerian forward's importance to Galatasaray and the challenge facing other Turkish sides hoping to end the club's recent dominance.

Having collected 25 points from their first 10 league matches, Galatasaray will be determined to maintain their position at the top of the table as they defend their title.

However, Sabuncuoğlu believes their rivals may need a major setback involving Osimhen before they can mount a serious challenge for the championship.
