Barcelona Summer Signing Rodri Takes on Leadership Role in Hansi Flick’s Dressing Room

According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Barcelona midfielder Rodri is reportedly becoming an increasingly influential figure in the dressing room, with his tactical understanding and communication abilities earning him greater respect from his teammates.

Since joining Barcelona from Manchester City during the summer, the midfielder has gradually assumed an unofficial leadership position within Hansi Flick’s squad, despite not being among the players who wear the captain’s armband.

His growing influence is believed to be linked partly to his close working relationship with Flick, as both seek to ensure that the manager’s tactical instructions and expectations are properly communicated and understood by the entire team.

Rodri initially adopted a reserved approach after arriving at Barcelona, taking time to observe his new environment and listen to his teammates. However, his standing within the squad has reportedly increased, with his opinions now carrying considerable weight.

The midfielder is said to play an active role in half-time team talks, pointing out positional mistakes, explaining necessary tactical changes and offering advice on how players can improve their performances in the second half.

His ability to analyse matches and communicate tactical instructions has reportedly earned him comparisons to an extension of Flick on the pitch, particularly when Barcelona need to maintain their organisation or respond to tactical adjustments made by their opponents.

Rodri’s emergence as a leadership figure has also complemented the influence of Brazilian winger Raphinha, who remains an important personality within the Barcelona dressing room.

Raphinha is recognised for bringing passion, energy and emotional intensity to the squad, especially when the team encounters difficult situations. Rodri, on the other hand, reportedly focuses more on tactical assessment, identifying weaknesses and helping his teammates understand how to address them.

Together, their contrasting leadership qualities provide Barcelona with a combination of emotional motivation and tactical guidance. While Raphinha inspires his teammates through his determination and enthusiasm, Rodri helps turn the manager’s tactical ideas into practical actions on the pitch.

The report does not suggest that Rodri has taken over Raphinha’s position within the team’s leadership structure. Instead, both players appear to offer complementary qualities that could improve unity, discipline and organisation within Flick’s squad.

Although Rodri does not officially serve as Barcelona’s captain, his reported emergence as a trusted voice highlights the growing importance of his role beyond his performances on the pitch. His tactical awareness, communication skills and relationship with the manager could make him an increasingly valuable figure as Barcelona continue their campaign.
