Former Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez already eyeing next club after Man City

According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 30, 2026, former Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has revealed that he hopes to return to River Plate in the future, despite recently completing a high-profile move to Manchester City.

The Argentina international has made it clear that rejoining his boyhood club remains one of his major career ambitions.

Fernandez completed a controversial £125 million transfer from Chelsea to Manchester City during the summer transfer window following weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old was reportedly seeking a fresh challenge and better opportunities to compete for major trophies, leading Pep Guardiola's side to complete the expensive deal.

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, Fernandez has made 11 appearances across all competitions, recording one goal and one assist.

However, despite beginning a new chapter in the Premier League, the midfielder has maintained that his long-term plans include a return to Argentine football.

Speaking about his future, Fernandez stressed that playing for River Plate again is something he is determined to make happen.

"I want to return to River at some point, I've said it several times. I'm going to return, I'm sure. It's something I really want!"

The comments were also shared on social media by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, bringing fresh attention to Fernandez's continued connection with the Argentine club.

River Plate played a significant role in the midfielder's development, as he progressed through the club's academy before breaking into the first team.

During his time at the club, he also won a league title and became a popular figure among supporters at the Monumental Stadium.

His attachment to River Plate has remained strong since his move to European football, with the midfielder previously expressing his desire to return.

Although Fernandez has not suggested that he is considering an immediate exit from Manchester City, his latest comments indicate that he sees a return to River Plate as an important part of his future beyond European football.
