According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, October 26, 2026, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has prioritised rest and recovery for his players following consecutive defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, as a growing injury crisis continues to disrupt his plans.
Citing Spanish publication SPORT, the report states that Flick wants his squad to regain physical and mental freshness before returning to intensive tactical preparations following the disappointing results.
The German manager reportedly addressed his players shortly after Barcelona’s defeat in El Clasico, emphasising the importance of recovery before tackling the team’s recent shortcomings.
Flick has instructed his players to follow their nutritional guidelines and use the break to disconnect from football. The coaching staff are also expected to benefit from the pause before resuming preparations for upcoming fixtures.
Barcelona’s immediate plans could be affected by the Ballon d’Or ceremony, with Lamine Yamal, Joan Garcia and Rodri expected to travel to London. Flick hopes those involved will also find time to recover from the pressure surrounding the club.
From Wednesday, attention is expected to shift towards tactical adjustments and discussions about Barcelona’s recent performances.
However, the club’s injury problems remain a major concern, particularly in defence. Young defender Xavi Espart sustained an injury against Real Madrid, further complicating Flick’s efforts to establish a settled defensive line-up.
The manager reportedly believes several injuries have resulted from physical knocks rather than inadequate preparation, limiting the extent to which changes to training can prevent further setbacks.
Barcelona have already acknowledged their limited defensive options, leaving Flick with fewer experienced players as he attempts to improve the team’s performances.
The situation could create further opportunities for young talents from La Masia, the club’s renowned academy.
Centre-back Alex Campos featured against Real Madrid, while midfielder Orien Goren was also involved amid Dani Olmo’s absence. More academy players could be considered as Flick manages his depleted squad.
Barcelona must now balance the need for tactical improvement with the importance of avoiding further injuries. While Flick’s immediate priority is to restore his players’ sharpness, the ongoing defensive crisis means he must find solutions with the resources available.
