Jose Mourinho has signalled that Real Madrid are not prepared to consider selling Vinicius Junior, despite reported interest from Arsenal ahead of the 2027 summer transfer window. The Portuguese manager’s position could make it difficult for the Premier League club to secure the Brazilian forward, who remains an important figure in Madrid’s plans.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Monday, 2 November 2026, Mourinho wants Vinicius to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu and has made his preference clear. Arsenal have previously explored the possibility of signing the 26-year-old, but their pursuit could face another significant obstacle if Real Madrid maintain their current stance.
Vinicius was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during the previous summer transfer window. However, he turned down the opportunity to join Mikel Arteta’s team and instead reaffirmed his commitment to Madrid by signing a lucrative contract extension. Despite that decision, Arsenal are reportedly continuing to monitor his situation as they plan possible attacking reinforcements for 2027.
The Gunners are understood to regard the Brazilian as one of their preferred targets. Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz has also emerged as another reported option, as Arsenal consider investing further in their forward line.
Mourinho’s comments come at a time when Vinicius has experienced inconsistent performances this season. Nevertheless, the manager’s public support suggests that his recent difficulties have not changed the club’s desire to retain him.
Speaking to journalists before Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Racing Santander on Sunday, Mourinho expressed his eagerness to welcome the Brazilian back following his suspension. He said he loved Vinicius and needed him in the team, underlining the importance he attaches to the forward’s return.
Meanwhile, Yan Diomande has attracted attention after stepping in during Vinicius’ absence. The Ivorian winger scored his fourth goal in six matches against Racing Santander, strengthening his case for continued opportunities. His contribution has also increased discussion about competition for attacking positions once Vinicius becomes available again.
Diomande’s emergence could give Mourinho another selection option, although it does not necessarily mean Real Madrid are considering selling their established Brazilian star. The manager’s latest remarks indicate that he still expects Vinicius to feature prominently in his plans.
Financial considerations could also complicate Arsenal’s interest. FootballTransfers reports that signing the forward might require a fee exceeding the €145 million paid for Alexander Isak and Enzo Fernandez, potentially making him the most expensive Premier League acquisition in history.
For now, Mourinho’s position presents a substantial challenge to Arsenal’s reported ambitions. Vinicius’ performances, his role under the manager and Real Madrid’s willingness to negotiate will all remain important factors in determining whether the proposed transfer becomes realistic next summer.
