Barcelona coaches closely monitoring teenage winger as he waits for first-team chance

Barcelona's first-team coaching staff are continuing to monitor the progress of teenage winger Jesse Bisiwu as the youngster waits for an opportunity to make his competitive debut under head coach Hansi Flick. Despite being involved in the senior team's pre-season preparations, the 18-year-old has yet to feature in an official match since joining the Catalan club from Club Brugge.

The young attacker arrived at Barcelona during the summer transfer window as part of the club's plans to strengthen its future attacking options. Although he has not yet been introduced into Flick's competitive squad, the coaching staff are reportedly paying close attention to his development and assessing how well he is adapting to his new environment.

Barcelona have considerable expectations for Bisiwu following his arrival in a deal reportedly worth €8.5 million, with additional payments included in the agreement. His recruitment was said to be a personal decision supported by sporting director Deco and head of scouting Joao Amaral, who identified the winger as a promising prospect with the potential to develop into an important player.

The club demonstrated its belief in his abilities by offering him a long-term contract that runs until 2031. Barcelona also provided him with an opportunity to work alongside the senior players during pre-season, allowing him to experience the demands of training under Flick and compete for recognition within the first-team setup.

Reports suggest that Bisiwu made a positive impression during friendly matches, raising hopes that he could eventually receive an opportunity with the senior side. However, those encouraging performances have not yet translated into competitive appearances, as Flick has continued to leave him outside his matchday plans.

Instead of regularly featuring with the first team, the teenager has spent most of his time developing with Barça Atletic, Barcelona's reserve team. He is currently working under manager Juliano Belletti, who is responsible for helping young players gain the experience and consistency needed to progress towards senior football.

Bisiwu has made six league appearances for the reserve side, registering one assist in the process. Although his contribution in front of goal has so far been limited, the matches have provided him with valuable opportunities to improve his understanding of Spanish football and adjust to the physical and tactical demands of the competition.

He has also continued to train with Barcelona's senior squad on several occasions. Nevertheless, he is yet to receive a place in a competitive matchday squad selected by Flick, meaning his immediate future remains focused on earning regular playing time with the reserve team.

His development has not been entirely smooth since moving to Catalonia. One of the major setbacks came during the Copa Catalunya final against CE Sabadell, when he suffered an injury that forced him to leave the pitch after only 10 minutes. The early withdrawal disrupted his progress and prevented him from enjoying the consistent involvement that could have helped him settle more quickly.

The youngster also encountered administrative difficulties concerning his registration. La Liga initially withheld approval because of outstanding visa-related documentation, creating another obstacle as he attempted to establish himself within Barcelona's development system.

Those complications affected his early adaptation and made it more difficult for him to build momentum after completing the move from Club Brugge. However, the coaching staff have reportedly remained attentive to his situation and continue to assess his progress rather than rushing him into senior football before he is ready.

For now, Bisiwu's main responsibility is to become a regular starter for Barça Atletic and deliver consistent performances that demonstrate his readiness for a greater challenge. Barcelona believe that regular football at reserve-team level will help him develop physically, tactically and technically while building the confidence required for senior competition.

His performances under Belletti are therefore expected to play an important role in determining when he could take the next step. Although his competitive debut for Barcelona's first team has not yet arrived, the club's continued monitoring suggests that his development remains part of its long-term plans.
