SportPesa League: Ali’s late header rescues 3K FC in dramatic draw against Bandari FC
SportPesa League: Ali’s late header rescues 3K FC in dramatic draw against Bandari FC

Newly promoted 3K FC turned a corner-set piece into a late equalizer to deny Bandari FC a first 2026/27 SportPesa League win of the season, as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at Mbaraki Sports Club on Monday evening.

Bandari had clung to David Owino’s 40-second strike for almost the entire match, hoping to secure their first victory under Charles Okere.

However, just as the hosts looked set to celebrate, 3K snatched a dramatic equalizer from a corner, with Sally Ali’s 92nd-minute header breaking their hearts.

Both sides came into the encounter with a point to their names. Bandari had held AFC Leopards to a goalless draw in their opener, while 3K, much like today, had been forced to settle for a 2-2 stalemate against Mara Sugar at home.

Nothing beats an early goal, and just 40 seconds into the contest, the hosts had already drawn first blood.

William Wadri delivered a superb outswinging cross that 3K goalkeeper Edwin Simiyu managed to parry back into play.

David Owino, lurking just outside the box, unleashed a powerful effort that sailed past the defenders to hand his side an early advantage.

The Dockers enjoyed the better share of the proceedings, carving out several promising opportunities, particularly through Lawrence Okoth and Wadri, but neither could find the back of the net.

The Embu outfit tried to create openings of their own but struggled to breach Bandari’s resolute defence. They were also forced into an early substitution after Michael Amwayi picked up an injury, making way for Shaban Mwachozi as the visitors headed into the break trailing.

Bandari continued to dictate much of the play in the second half, while 3K looked to punish them on the counterattack. However, the visitors struggled to turn their breaks into meaningful chances.

In stoppage time, though, 3K won a corner on the left, and Victor Matete swung the ball into the box.

Joseph Okoth got a slight touch on it, but Oscar Juma flicked the ball towards the far side, where substitute Sally Ali rose to head home the equalizer and snatch a point for his side.
