Another Premier League manager faces sack before Michael Carrick with Sean Dyche tipped to replace
Another Premier League manager faces sack before Michael Carrick with Sean Dyche tipped to replace

Crystal Palace are reportedly eyeing a Premier League-proven head coach as a replacement for Pierre Sage, following another lifeless defeat against Newcastle.

On a weekend dominated by managerial movements, Crystal Palace’s turmoil has flown under the radar.

Michael Carrick has dominated the headlines as Manchester United’s freefall has placed the Englishman in serious trouble.

But after just one win in eight, and conceding a wealth of goals on the way, it has been reported that Crystal Palace are ready to move on from new boss Pierre Sage.

The Frenchman entered the Crystal Palace dugout this year after successful stints at Lyon and Lens in Ligue 1, but has already lost five out of his opening Premier League games.

Their only win so far was against the former Eagles boss Oliver Glasner, as Palace shocked Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Back to losing ways, Pierre Sage has now tried to downplay rumours regarding the future of the club, insisting that he still has the support of the club's hierarchy.

"Yes. I think they do [back him]," he answered when quizzed about his relationship with the board.

"It's normal [to be under pressure] because we don't have the results. The noise is a consequence of the team and we don't have [the points] we expect.

" For me, the noise around the team and club is only noise. I spoke with the chairman this week, but I didn't speak about this subject.

"We spoke about the game, the condition of the team and how we build our game plan to compete today. We didn't speak about this subject. I share my strategy with him and the technical staff. It's normal."

Yet, reports claim that Sean Dyche could be set to return to management in his wake.

Sean Dyche slated as top target for Crystal Palace manager

According to reports from the Telegraph, Sean Dyche is the leading candidate to take over at Crystal Palace should they decide to part ways with Sage.

Dyche, who has been out of football since a short stint at Nottingham Forest last year, has turned to punditry in recent weeks.

But the hoarse Premier League icon is currently the frontrunner for the Palace job, edging out Thomas Frank, Robbie Keane, and Eddie Howe - the latter of whom is more closely linked to the potential vacancy at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace fans haven't taken the news well, though, with an array of social media posts claiming that its a step backwards.

"If we get Dyche, I genuinely hope Palace get relegated. What has happened to this club in the space of months," one fan said.

Another added, "We had a Europa League-winning manager and won 3 titles in two seasons and now (trying not to be disrespectful), the best we can do is Sean Dyche? Run by absolute clowns if true."

With the worst defensive record in the league throughout the calendar year, and a portfolio of route-one attackers like Dwight McNeil and Jean-Philipe Mateta, though, others have argued that the appointment could be exactly what they need.

Dycheball has seen mixed success in the Premier League, becoming the modern-day 'saviour' mantle vacated by the likes of Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis.

Yet, if it's not Palace, Dyche could still be donning the claret colours by Halloween, as Burnley are also managerless.
