Will Lankshear continue his outstanding form for Middlesbrough, and with each passing day, it is becoming clearer and clearer that Tottenham may have made a mistake selling the striker.

Spurs have been blasted by some pundits for letting Lankshear go, with Darren Bent even suggesting that it was snobbery on the part of the Lilywhites to sell the 21-year-old.

The former Tottenham striker said on talkSPORT: I just think sometimes there’s a big club snobbery. They’re Spurs, they’ve got all the money in the world.

“I’ve got no doubt whatsoever that if Middlesbrough get promoted or whoever goes up or there’s a team there, he’ll be playing in the Premier League. He is more than good enough.”

It is difficult to argue with those words, given that Lankshear is showing no signs of slowing down in front of goal. The Spurs academy graduate is already into double digits this season, which is more than what the Lilywhites have scored as a team across all competitions.

Former Tottenham star Will Lankshear matches Erling Haaland in amazing stat

Lankshear netted his 11th goal of the season today for Middlesbrough, who were held to a 2-2 draw at the Riverside Stadium by 10-man Coventry City.

The Spurs academy graduate is producing the king of numbers that no one in English football apart from Erling Haaland is doing at the moment.

In fact, Lankshear and the Man City star are the only two players across the top four tiers of English football to hit double figures so far this season. Lankshear is on 11, while Haaland has hit 12 already, including his four in the Champions League.

Tottenham fans would certainly bite your hand off to have a finisher like the Irishman in their squad, with Dominic Solanke having only scored once in the league and Omar Marmoush yet to open his account since his summer switch.

Spurs have a right to match clause for Lankshear

Interestingly, it turns out that the Lilywhites do have a route to getting Lankshear back to the club, although it is not a direct one.

According to a recent update by TEAMtalk, Spurs do not have a buy-back option on Lankshear, but they do have a matching right clause for their former player.

That means that Roberto De Zerbi’s side have the option to match any offer that Boro accepts for the centre-forward in the future.

However, a return to N17 is not on the cards for the player any time soon, with the same update revealing that Lankshear is loving life at Boro and has his sights set on firing the club into the Premier League.
