Gor Mahia strengthened their position in the 2026/2027 SportPesa League title race after defeating APS Bomet 1-0 on Saturday, October 17, while KCB recorded an identical victory over Mathare United.
The results gave both teams a boost in the second round of the campaign, with Gor Mahia building on their impressive opening 4-2 victory against Murang’a Seal.
The reigning champions moved to six points from two matches, having scored five goals and conceded two. Their goal difference of +3 puts them in a strong position as they seek to defend their league title.
KCB also improved their standing after edging Mathare United 1-0. The bankers had drawn 2-2 against Nairobi United in their opening fixture, taking their tally to four points from two matches.
Tusker FC remain among the early title contenders after beginning their campaign with a 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars. Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana FC also collected three points from their opening matches.
The weekend results increased the pressure on the chasing teams, with clubs looking to avoid losing ground during the opening weeks of the competition.
For APS Bomet, the narrow defeat was a setback after their goalless draw against Mathare United in their previous outing. Mathare United also suffered their first loss of the campaign following Saturday's result against KCB.
Attention now turns to Sunday's fixtures, which include Shabana FC against Nairobi United, Kakamega Homeboyz against Ulinzi Stars and Murang’a Seal against Posta Rangers.
Those matches could further change the standings, particularly among teams that started the season with victories or draws.
Although Gor Mahia have made an encouraging start, the league remains in its early stages. Consistency over the coming weeks will be crucial as clubs compete for the top position and work towards their season targets.
