Emery confirms injury blow for Aston Villa star – but defender in line for return

Unai Emery has confirmed Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a hamstring injury during Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

The defender’s injury comes as another defensive worry for Emery, but a potential absence for the full-back is set to be eased by Ian Maatsen’s upcoming return.

“It is a hamstring,” the Villa boss said on Wan-Bissaka.

“He played fantastic when we needed him against Brentford, Fenerbahce and today.

“Different players are being injured and the competitions are tough.”

There was better news on Ian Maatsen, who is closing in on a return to training.

“Ian Maatsen is getting better and he will start training with us next week,” Emery added.

“We are going to find another solution, like with Tyrone Mings in the last 10 minutes.”

However, Emery says the issue which forced match winner Johan Manzambi off does not look serious.
