Two PSG players doubtful for Barcelona game after fresh knock vs Strasbourg

According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 18, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain have suffered a potential double injury blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona, with Maghnes Akliouche and Nuno Mendes reportedly doubtful after picking up knocks against Strasbourg.

According to reports, both players experienced physical problems during PSG's Ligue 1 encounter with Strasbourg, leaving manager Luis Enrique waiting for further updates on their fitness ahead of the important European fixture.

Mendes reportedly suffered discomfort in the closing stages of the match and was forced to leave the field. However, PSG have yet to confirm the extent of his injury, meaning it remains unclear whether the left-back will be available against Barcelona.

Akliouche also experienced muscular discomfort during the game, putting his participation in the upcoming Champions League encounter in doubt.

The potential absences would be a concern for Enrique, who will want his strongest possible squad available to face a Barcelona side that has won its opening 11 matches in all competitions this season.

Mendes' possible absence could be particularly significant given his ability to contribute both defensively and in attack. His pace and overlapping runs provide PSG with an important outlet on the left flank, and losing him could force Enrique to adjust his defensive setup.

Akliouche's fitness will also be monitored closely as PSG assess their options ahead of the meeting with the Catalan giants.

However, Barcelona are dealing with injury concerns of their own. Andreas Christensen is unavailable, while Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde reportedly picked up knocks during Barcelona's 5-2 victory over Real Betis.

If those defenders fail to recover in time, Hansi Flick could face a difficult selection dilemma, with Pau Cubarsi potentially left as his only available natural centre-back from the options mentioned in the report.

Flick could consider deploying Frenkie de Jong in central defence, a position in which he has reportedly been tested following his return from injury. The Barcelona manager could also turn to young players from La Masia if necessary.

Both teams will therefore be hoping their injured players recover before the Champions League encounter.

For PSG, the immediate priority is determining whether Mendes and Akliouche will be fit enough to feature. Their availability could influence Enrique's tactical plans as the European champions prepare to face an in-form Barcelona side.
