‘Tottenham qualify for Europe’ – Robbie Fowler makes a brave Spurs prediction

Robbie Fowler has now given a bold prediction on where he expects Tottenham Hotspur to finish in the Premier League this season.

Spurs remain winless from their first six games of the season and are sitting in the relegation zone, which is not what any Tottenham fan would have expected at the start of the campaign.

However, Tottenham’s performances have told a different story, and the club could be much higher up the table if they had even an ordinary conversion rate, with the Lilywhites struggling to convert their chances.

That is backed up by the numbers, with Spurs’ underlying performance metrics being comparable to the likes of Arsenal and Man City, even though they are at the opposite end of the table.

Robbie Fowler expects Tottenham to qualify for Europe

Opta’s Supercomputer has suggested that Spurs are on course to finish 16th this season, with the data analysis platform giving the club just a 0.03 per cent chance of achieving Champions League qualification this term.

However, Fowler has seen enough in Tottenham’s performances to be convinced that De Zerbi has done some solid work in pre-season and that the Lilywhites will soon start dominating a bigger portion of their matches.

The Liverpool legend told We’ll Have a Look podcast: “I’m gonna throw it out there: I think Tottenham qualify for Europe. I know, I could come across as a bit of an idiot here. But I think you are seeing that Tottenham have done a lot of work in pre-season on how they want to play.

“Against Everton, for the first 20 minutes, I thought they were very good. Ok, they obviously do not end up winning the game, but I think they’ve got to find the consistency of putting 30-minute performances into 70, 80, 90 minute performances.

“I think they’ve bought well in terms of players who are established in the Premier League, and I think we cannot talk enough about the importance of having players who know the league.

“I think Tottenham will be alright because of the work they’ve done in pre-season. You’re seeing bits of it, but you’re not seeing it to the full extent of what you should as a Tottenham supporter.”

Pundit suggests Spurs could be involved in another relegation battle

While Fowler seems upbeat about Tottenham’s prospects this season, another legendary former England striker, Alan Shearer, believes things can still go from bad to worse for De Zerbi’s side.

Shearer suggested Spurs could find themselves in a massive relegation battle this season if they fail to pick up their first win of the season against Coventry City.

However, De Zerbi’s teams have a history of producing much-improved results after mid-season trips away, and Spurs fans will be hoping that there is a huge uptick in results after the squad’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella.
