Ryan Gravenberch looks to be a major doubt for Liverpool’s game against Crystal Palace this weekend after the midfielder was left out of the Netherlands’ squad for the upcoming international break.
Gravenberch did not make the midweek trip to Fenerbahce with the rest of the Reds’ squad, having been left on the bench just a few days earlier against Arsenal. The 24-year-old was confirmed to be carrying a heel injury, with Andoni Iraola having been uncertain whether he would be able to return against Palace.
“I don’t know, it’s a day-to-day thing,” Iraola said before the Champions League encounter with Fenerbahce.
“It’s a fracture of the heel. It’s about the pain. He has been with some discomfort.
“The other day against Arsenal he was warming up and he was not fully confident. He hasn’t improved since then.
“But it’s going to be something that every day we ask him, every day we see how he is. If he can be available for the weekend, lovely, he would be a very good help for us. But I cannot tell you right now.”
Iraola is yet to hold his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park, with the Liverpool boss scheduled to speak later on Friday, but an update on Gravenberch may have already been pre-empted.
The Netherlands’ squad for this month’s international break has been confirmed, with Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo included in Xavi’s 25-man group. There is no sign of Gravenberch though, which puts his involvement this weekend into major doubt.
Jeremie Frimpong is also not included as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury, having been out since limping off just minutes after coming on as a substitute against Brentford last month.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
The right-back is hoped to be able to return to training during the international break, when Liverpool will also move a step closer to getting its long-term absentees back in contention.
Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike all remain out at the moment, but are anticipated to return to action before the end of the year.
Leoni’s comeback has been delayed, having been expected to return to training during the last international break, but Iraola has indicated the club is targeting him to be back in training over the coming weeks.
Likewise, Bradley and Ekitike are both on course to rejoin their teammates in training soon, having been sidelined with knee and Achilles injuries respectively this year.
