Everton are reported to be one of the clubs eyeing a January move for Tottenham midfielder Conor Gallagher, who only arrived from Atletico Madrid at the start of the year.

Gallagher was Spurs’ last signing of the brief Thomas Frank era, and it is fair to say that the majority of the fan base were not totally on board with his signing.

However, the England international has slowly but surely managed to win over Tottenham supporters with his attitude, work rate and his passion for the shirt.

The passion Gallagher showed when he came on in the recent London derby against Chelsea demonstrated that the midfielder is now Spurs through and through.

However, Gallagher is not a regular starter at Tottenham, it has been reported that Everton, Aston Villa and Leeds United are all plotting a move to prise away the Spurs man in January.

Everton not expected to make a move for Tottenham’s Conor Gallagher

The earlier report, which came from Fussball News, was particularly bullish about Everton’s interest in the 26-year-old, although it was suggested that Spurs may not be inclined to let the former Chelsea man leave in January.

A new report in TEAMtalk has now confirmed that the Toffees did express interest in Gallagher during his time at Stamford Bridge, prior to his move to Atletico Madrid.

While it is true that the Spurs man is a long-term target for the Merseyside club, it is suggested that a midfielder is not likely to be high on David Moyes’ wishlist for the upcoming transfer window.

It is pointed out that James Garner and Harrison Armstrong have impressed in the middle of the park, while summer signing Hayden Hackney is also delivering for Everton.

In addition, the Toffees have Christian Norgaard to return to fitness, while Merlin Rohl is also another midfield option, even though he has been used at right-back this season.

Moyes also has two options for the number 10 role in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Charly Alcaraz, which is why a move for Gallagher is deemed unlikely.

Roberto De Zerbi has been clear about what he thinks of Gallagher

Even if one of Everton, Leeds or Villa make a move for the England midfielder, it appears unlikely that Tottenham will greenlight a sale.

This is because Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that he is a big fan of Conor Gallagher, and the Spurs boss has started him in tough away grounds this season.

The Italian said about the 26-year-old back in September: “Even if he doesn’t play every game, I love him. He’s generous, he’s a smart player, he has the right mentality.

When asked if Gallagher is underrated, De Zerbi responded: “For me, no, he’s not underrated. Maybe for other coaches or other people. For me, no. I think when I came last season, Conor didn’t play until my arrival. When I came, he played every game. We had less competition in the squad. But I love him. He’s my player. I know he’s a reliable player. When I call him, he’s always ready to fight, to run.”
