Resurgent Fulham learning from mistakes, says Arbeloa

Alvaro Arbeloa says Fulham are learning from their mistakes after a dismal start to the season.

Fulham failed to win any of their opening six Premier League matches, though they did earn draws against Liverpool and Manchester United.

There were rumours of dressing room disharmony, and even speculation that Arbeloa could be out of a job, having only been appointed in the summer.

However, Fulham have turned their form around with successive 1-0 wins over Hull City and Coventry City.

They lost to Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, but Arbeloa is confident his team have turned a corner.

"We have been learning from our mistakes, and obviously we are a team in a process," the former Real Madrid boss told Sky Sports ahead of Fulham's clash with Aston Villa on Saturday.

"We are improving, we're working hard and for us to be a very solid team is so important.

"We're not the best team in open games, we're much better [off[ controlling the ball, the transitions. We're a much better team in this way.

"Of course, I have to adapt to my players – they are the most important thing. It's not just about my ideas, it's about them and their qualities, their talent.

"You can only control what you can control. That's what you want to do. We cannot control what our opponents want to do but we have been learning and improving, working on our mistakes.

"We can be aggressive when we press, but sometimes you need to drop into a low block or a medium block. There are moments for everything in a game. At the end of the day, we have to be a complete team.

"In every process there are some ups and downs. That's normal, but we're on the right track."

Fulham are looking for three Premier League wins in a row for the first time since December 2025, while they last achieved that without conceding a goal back in April 2019.

They won their last Premier League game against Villa but have registered consecutive wins against them just once before in the competition, winning both games in 2013-14.
