Shea Lacey has been hailed for his impactful cameo against AS Roma tonight.
The ‘superb’ Manchester United starlet came off the bench to provide the match-winning assist for Matheus Cunha, securing an emphatic 3-2 victory on home soil.
Shea Lacey shines off the bench on UCL night
Lacey had nothing short of a ‘game-changing’ influence when he entered the fray in the 74th minute.
Even aside from his stellar assist, he recorded seven successful passes, won three duels and completed two take-ons.
After ripping off his shirt and leaping into the crowd to celebrate directly with the Old Trafford faithful, Cunha sought out his young counterpart and kissed him on the head in appreciation for his efforts.
19-year-old Lacey will now certainly be feeling as though he’s done enough to earn a spot in Michael Carrick’s starting XI for the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
United: The state of play before the international break
Tonight’s result ended a nine-game winless streak for the Red Devils.
The players and Carrick now must use the dramatic triumph as a turning point to finally kick on and get some wins and points on the board – in the Premier League especially.
United’s opponents this weekend, Villa, slumped to a 3-0 away defeat at the hands of La Liga leaders Barcelona tonight, so the momentum will ever-so-slightly be in the Reds’ favour, even more so given the fixture will be taking place in M16.
One downside of the night, however, was that Carlos Baleba was withdrawn just minutes into the second half after pulling up with a hamstring injury.
He was writhing in pain on the floor while waiting to receive treatment, and went straight down the tunnel after being brought off and replaced by Youri Tielemans.
