Romeo Lavia has revealed that regular conversations with former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard have played an important role in motivating him to maintain his impressive form this season.
According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle on Monday, November 2, 2026, the Belgian midfielder sees the Chelsea legend as an important source of encouragement and is determined to make him proud through his performances.
Lavia delivered an outstanding display as Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League, earning praise for one of his strongest performances since joining the club. Hazard was present at Stamford Bridge to watch his fellow Belgian in action.
The former Chelsea attacker reportedly played a significant role in convincing Lavia to move from Southampton to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023. Their relationship has remained strong, with the pair continuing to keep in touch.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lavia expressed his admiration for Hazard, describing him as an important figure in his career. The midfielder explained that seeing the pride in the former forward’s eyes gives him additional motivation, adding that he was pleased to see the club legend supporting him from the stands.
Chelsea’s victory over United also showcased the attacking quality available to manager Xabi Alonso. Cole Palmer converted a penalty, while Morgan Rogers produced an impressive solo effort to find the net. Estevao Willian also caught attention after making his first Premier League start of the season.
Beyond his contributions in possession, Lavia has made significant progress defensively during the current campaign. Figures from FotMob show that his average defensive contributions have increased from 8.83 last season to 14.56 this term.
His tackling and interception numbers have also improved since Alonso took charge. Lavia is now averaging 3.15 tackles per 90 minutes, compared with 1.91 last season, while his interceptions have risen from 1.19 to 2.91.
The midfielder has also recorded an improvement in his top speed, moving from 31.9 km/h last season to 32.7 km/h this campaign.
Chelsea will hope Lavia can maintain his impressive progress when they travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in their next Premier League fixture.
