Paris Saint-Germain may be without Nuno Mendes and Maghnes Akliouche for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona after both reportedly suffered physical problems against Strasbourg.
Barca Universal reported on Sunday, October 18, 2026, that PSG coach Luis Enrique is keeping a close eye on the pair as his side prepares to meet Hansi Flick’s in-form team.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mendes and Akliouche are both doubtful. PSG will evaluate their condition before deciding whether either can play.
Mendes was reportedly substituted late in the Strasbourg match after feeling discomfort. The nature and severity of his issue have not yet been confirmed. Akliouche also experienced muscular discomfort, and the club will monitor his recovery over the next few days before making a decision.
Barcelona have injury concerns of their own after beating Real Betis 5-2. Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde reportedly picked up fitness problems during the match, while Andreas Christensen remains sidelined with an injury.
Their availability could leave Flick with difficult choices in defence. If the affected players cannot recover in time, Pau Cubarsi may be the only fit natural centre-back. Flick could consider using Frenkie de Jong in defence, a role he has filled before, or turn to a young player from Barcelona’s La Masia academy.
Having Garcia, Kounde or Martin available would be a boost for Barcelona as they prepare to face the reigning European champions. The absence of several defenders could make the challenge significantly tougher.
Both clubs will assess their players in the coming days, with those evaluations likely to determine who is available for Wednesday’s important Champions League fixture.
