According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday November 3, 2026, Manchester United produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat AS Roma 3-2 after falling two goals behind, securing an important Champions League victory through an impressive attacking display.
Roma started brightly and stunned the hosts in the 11th minute when Matias Soule finished Rodrigo Mora's excellent lofted pass with a composed effort into the bottom-right corner.
United struggled to respond as Roma maintained their defensive organisation. Their problems increased in the 16th minute when Ayden Heaven was penalised for handball, allowing Donyell Malen to convert the resulting penalty one minute later.
Michael Carrick's side entered halftime trailing 2-0 despite creating opportunities through Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo. Soule also struck the woodwork, while Senne Lammens produced important saves.
United returned with greater determination, introducing Youri Tielemans after Carlos Baleba suffered an injury. Their pressure eventually produced a breakthrough when Gianluca Mancini conceded another penalty in the 55th minute.
Bruno Fernandes initially missed his spot-kick, but the referee ordered a retake following an infringement. The United captain made no mistake with his second attempt, reducing the deficit in the 58th minute.
Bryan Mbeumo nearly equalised shortly afterwards, but his attempted lob struck the left post. United continued attacking, eventually finding their second goal through Matheus Cunha in the 83rd minute.
Fernandes delivered an excellent cross, allowing Cunha to finish into the bottom-right corner. Three minutes later, Shea Lacey supplied another assist, with Cunha confidently scoring again to complete United's incredible turnaround.
However, Cunha received two yellow cards and was dismissed in stoppage time, leaving United to protect their narrow advantage before the final whistle confirmed victory.
