Chelsea teenager Ryan Kavuma-McQueen has impressed during his loan spell at Portsmouth, with his performances earning praise from manager John Mousinho and providing Xabi Alonso with an encouraging sign of his potential.
According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the 17-year-old winger has emerged as one of the Championship's most effective dribblers since joining Portsmouth on loan during the summer transfer window.
The Cobham graduate has made an immediate impact on the south coast, establishing himself as an important member of Mousinho's squad.
His performances have highlighted his ability to beat defenders, create chances and contribute to Portsmouth's attacking play.
Kavuma-McQueen particularly impressed in Portsmouth's victory over Sheffield United, completing his first full 90 minutes for the club.
He helped set up Adrian Segečić's goal after beating Tahith Chong on the left flank before delivering a dangerous cross into the six-yard box.
His display came after a difficult South Coast derby defeat against Southampton, during which he was substituted at half-time. Mousinho was pleased with the teenager's response.
"I don’t want to get carried away... I thought he was awesome tonight," the Portsmouth manager said.
"I thought he was a joy to watch. He worked his socks off, which I thought was a big step forward for him."
Mousinho also acknowledged that the youngster still has areas to improve, particularly his understanding of pressing responsibilities and when to track opponents. However, he believes the winger's attacking threat is already clear.
The statistics underline Kavuma-McQueen's progress. Across 10 Championship appearances, including seven starts, he has completed 24 successful dribbles.
The highest total in the division at the time of the report. His average of 2.4 successful dribbles per 90 minutes is also the league's best.
The teenager has previously revealed his admiration for former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, whose dribbling ability influenced his development as a winger.
"I’ve watched a lot of games there and seen some great players represent this club," Kavuma-McQueen said.
"Obviously, as a young winger, one that I always loved was Eden Hazard."
He also identified Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the players he looked up to while growing up.
