According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Como head coach Cesc Fabregas has disclosed the message he has delivered to his players ahead of their Champions League encounter with Manchester United.
The Italian club will host the Premier League giants at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday, with Fabregas hoping to lead his team to a historic victory.
Como have experienced an impressive transformation in recent years, earning promotion from Serie B in 2024 before finishing fourth in Serie A last season. Their strong performance secured qualification for the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.
Fabregas's side began their European campaign in impressive fashion, recording a convincing 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig. However, they suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Feyenoord in their second fixture.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Manchester United, the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder admitted that the English side might possess greater individual quality. Nevertheless, he believes his players can compete with their opponents through determination, confidence and the right mentality.
Fabregas described the encounter as a dream opportunity to face one of the biggest clubs in football history. He also encouraged his players to believe in their ability to secure all three points.
"It's a great match against one of the best and biggest teams in history. It's a match to dream about, but we must try to do our best to win and pick up the three points," he said.
The Spanish manager further emphasised that Como's mental strength and unity would be essential against a team with considerably more experience in European competitions.
"Our inner strength and our mentality are what must make us strong and allow us to believe that we can do it," he added.
Fabregas also explained that his coaching philosophy has been influenced by the elite managers he worked under during his playing career. However, he remains determined to establish his own identity and develop a distinctive approach to the game.
The Como boss wants his players to remain faithful to their footballing principles, even when results do not go their way. He believes they should leave the pitch knowing they stayed true to their identity rather than regretting their failure to follow their preferred style of play.
According to the report, Como have made a respectable start to the Serie A season, winning four of their opening seven matches and suffering just one defeat.
