According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026, Barcelona remain committed to Gavi despite the midfielder’s limited involvement under head coach Hansi Flick during the ongoing 2026-27 season.
The 22-year-old La Masia graduate has struggled to secure regular playing time this campaign, raising questions about his future role within the team.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Barcelona continue to consider Gavi an important part of their plans and have no intention of entertaining discussions about a possible departure.
The Spanish midfielder has accumulated just 191 minutes across seven appearances in all competitions this season, starting only twice.
His reduced involvement has reportedly left him frustrated, particularly after previously enjoying a more prominent position in the squad.
Gavi has also remained an unused substitute in five La Liga matches and was not introduced during Barcelona’s recent fixtures against Real Madrid and Deportivo Alaves.
The midfielder’s difficulties in securing playing time are largely connected to the fierce competition for places in the team’s midfield.
Pedri remains a regular starter under Flick, while summer arrival Rodri has established himself as the preferred partner for the Spanish international.
Marc Bernal has also impressed when given opportunities, while Fermin Lopez has secured the starting position in the attacking midfield role.
Furthermore, Frenkie de Jong’s return from injury has added another option to Barcelona’s midfield, making competition even tougher for Gavi.
Despite the situation, the Catalan club reportedly have no plans to part ways with the 22-year-old, whom they continue to regard as a valuable member of the squad.
Flick also discussed Gavi’s situation during his press conference ahead of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Aston Villa.
The German tactician acknowledged the midfielder’s abilities but explained that decisions made during matches can sometimes prevent him from following his original substitution plans.
“We all know his quality and Gavi is always an option, but once the match starts that option might disappear and you can’t always stick to your initial plan,” Flick said.
He further revealed that he had spoken directly with the midfielder, emphasising the need for him to remain confident despite his limited opportunities.
“I’ve spoken to him and the important thing is that he has confidence,” the Barcelona manager added.
Gavi remains one of the most highly rated players to have emerged from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, having broken into the senior team at a young age.
However, his immediate priority will be to convince Flick that he deserves a more significant role as the season progresses.
For now, Barcelona’s reported stance suggests that the club remain confident in Gavi’s abilities and are not considering selling him despite his lack of regular playing time.
