According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday, October 30, 2026, several Barcelona players have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with manager Hansi Flick's strict hotel arrangements, with some believing that spending additional time away from their families is affecting their recovery and overall freshness.
According to ARA journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro, some members of the Barcelona dressing room would prefer returning home between matches instead of remaining in hotels, despite Flick's emphasis on maintaining organised recovery routines.
The reported disagreement has attracted attention following Barcelona's consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga. After the Clasico loss, Flick acknowledged that his players lacked the freshness needed to perform at their highest level.
The situation reportedly became more noticeable after Barcelona's 5-2 victory over Real Betis at Estadio de La Cartuja. Severe weather conditions prevented the team from flying back to Barcelona on the same evening.
According to the report, the team captains preferred remaining at the airport until weather conditions improved. However, Flick eventually instructed the entire squad to spend the night at a hotel in Seville.
The players returned to Barcelona the following day before travelling to Paris two days later. Flick reportedly believes the disruption to the team's schedule affected preparations for their subsequent fixtures.
The German manager has also introduced additional recovery measures, involving sleep consultant Anna West, who monitors several aspects of the players' sleeping arrangements.
Her responsibilities reportedly include bedroom temperatures, bedding conditions, exposure to electronic screens and individual sleeping habits.
However, some players are said to believe that spending evenings with their families, having dinner at home and sleeping in their own beds would help improve their mental and physical freshness.
The situation is not entirely unfamiliar at Barcelona. Former captains Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez previously questioned unnecessary hotel stays, while former managers Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique eventually accommodated some of the players' preferences.
Flick has continued to maintain his stricter approach to recovery and preparation, although the reported disagreement highlights the challenge of balancing managerial expectations with the squad's preferences.
With upcoming fixtures against Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid, the manager will be expected to maintain the team's preparation standards while addressing concerns surrounding player recovery.
