LIV VS CHE: Chelsea Confirmed Team News And Best Possible Starting Line-up Against Liverpool

According to a report by the London Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Chelsea striker Joao Pedro is set to miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup encounter against Liverpool at Anfield after sustaining a thigh injury that could keep him out for several weeks.

The Brazilian forward’s injury represents a significant setback for Chelsea as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures. Pedro is also expected to miss this weekend’s Premier League meeting with Tottenham, forcing manager Xabi Alonso to reconsider his attacking options ahead of two important matches.

Alonso previously deployed Morgan Rogers in a more advanced role during the game against Tottenham, but the tactical adjustment failed to deliver the desired outcome. Rogers is now expected to return to his preferred attacking midfield position, while Danny Welbeck and Estevao are among the players available to strengthen Chelsea’s forward line.

In goal, Mike Penders is expected to retain his starting position despite making an expensive error in the previous match against Tottenham. Alonso continues to show confidence in the young goalkeeper, while Emi Martinez remains unavailable because of an injury.

Chelsea’s midfield could also undergo changes as Alonso manages his players’ workload. Moises Caicedo is expected to start, while Romeo Lavia could replace Jordan Henderson. Henderson has completed the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s last three matches, making him a potential candidate for a rest ahead of the club’s busy schedule.

There are further selection concerns in the wing-back positions, particularly regarding Pep Chavarria’s fitness. Should Chavarria fail to recover in time, Malo Gusto and Marco Palestra could be called upon to fill the positions. Wesley Fofana is also in contention to return to the starting lineup after being rested in the previous fixture.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Emegha has been included in the squad but is unlikely to start against Liverpool, potentially delaying his Chelsea debut once again. Reece James remains sidelined following knee surgery, although Jamie Gittens is reportedly approaching a return to action.

Chelsea must also prepare for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United. The limited recovery period between the two games could influence Alonso’s decisions, although the manager is expected to select an attacking team against Liverpool.

Chelsea’s predicted 3-4-2-1 formation features Penders in goal, with Acheampong, Colwill and Fofana in defence. Gusto, Lavia, Caicedo and Palestra are expected in midfield, while Rogers and Estevao could operate behind Welbeck as the central striker. Pedro, James and Martinez are listed as injured, Chavarria remains doubtful, Gittens is reportedly unavailable, and Cole Palmer is suspended.
