According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Barcelona are reportedly open to selling Jules Kounde, with Chelsea making initial enquiries about the conditions required to sign the French defender.
Journalist Matteo Moretto reported that Barcelona no longer consider the 27-year-old an untouchable member of their squad. The Spanish club are believed to be considering the possibility of his departure as they look for ways to raise transfer funds and strengthen other areas of the team.
The development marks a possible change in Barcelona’s position towards a player who has been an important part of their defence in recent seasons. However, his reduced involvement under manager Hansi Flick has raised questions about his long-term role at the club.
Chelsea have reportedly contacted the relevant parties to understand the financial requirements of a potential deal. Their enquiry suggests that the Premier League club are assessing whether Kounde could be a realistic transfer target. However, there is no indication that formal negotiations between the two clubs have begun.
Barcelona are expected to demand a significant transfer fee if they decide to sell the defender. Kounde’s contract runs until 2030, meaning the club are not under immediate pressure to accept an offer. His lengthy agreement could also give Barcelona greater control over negotiations if Chelsea eventually submit a formal bid.
The defender’s reduced playing time has added to the uncertainty surrounding his future. He has started only four of Barcelona’s 13 matches this season, recording 458 minutes of action. Eric Garcia has also moved ahead of him in the competition for the right-back position.
Kounde’s recent absence from matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid has further limited his opportunities. However, an ankle injury has contributed to his unavailability, and he is also expected to miss Saturday’s meeting with Alaves as he continues his recovery.
Despite the situation, Kounde has not publicly expressed a desire to leave Barcelona. He has acknowledged that his performances have not always met expectations and remains determined to regain his place in the starting team.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are reportedly considering Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as a possible replacement. This could become relevant if the club decide to accept an offer for Kounde.
For now, Chelsea’s interest remains at the enquiry stage, while Barcelona must decide whether selling the French international would be beneficial to their plans.
