According to a report by Football London on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly considering a move to bring former defender Fikayo Tomori back to Stamford Bridge ahead of the January transfer window, with Coventry City also linked with a potential move for the England international.
Tomori’s future at AC Milan has reportedly become uncertain amid concerns over his limited playing time, with Chelsea among the Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.
The defender began his football journey in Chelsea’s academy as an Under-8 prospect before progressing to the senior team, where he made 27 appearances. He initially worked under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge but eventually left the club in search of more regular first-team football.
Tomori joined AC Milan on loan in January before completing a permanent transfer to the Italian club in the summer of 2021.
Since his arrival, the centre-back has established himself as an important member of the squad, making more than 200 appearances and contributing to the club’s success in Serie A.
However, reports suggest that his situation at the San Siro has changed, with his long-term future now in doubt because of his reduced involvement in domestic league matches.
With his contract reportedly due to expire at the end of the season, AC Milan could consider offers for the defender during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him under less favourable circumstances.
Although Tomori has featured in both of Milan’s recent Europa League matches, he has reportedly played only six minutes of Serie A football this season. A return to England could therefore provide him with an opportunity to secure more regular playing time and revive his career.
Chelsea are among the clubs reportedly interested in the defender. However, a potential return to Stamford Bridge could raise questions about how he would fit into the club’s existing defensive options.
The Blues already have several centre-backs competing for places in the squad and have recently signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, potentially complicating any move for Tomori.
Meanwhile, Coventry City could also emerge as an option, particularly given Lampard’s previous working relationship with the defender.
Lampard coached Tomori during their time together at Derby County and later gave him opportunities at Chelsea, meaning a reunion at Coventry could be a possibility if the club pursues the England international.
The financial terms of a potential January transfer remain unclear, with AC Milan yet to indicate how much they would demand for the defender. However, Transfermarkt estimates Tomori’s current market value at approximately £8.4 million.
