Barcelona keen on Ajax’s Youri Baas as defensive search continues

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Barcelona are interested in signing Ajax defender Youri Baas as the Catalan club continue their search for defensive reinforcements.

According to reports, the 23-year-old Dutchman has attracted attention from Barcelona, who admire his versatility, physical qualities and experience despite his relatively young age.

The La Liga champions believe Baas has the profile required to strengthen Hansi Flick's defence and could be a suitable addition to the squad.

Baas has established himself as an important player at Ajax, where he has also emerged as a leader. His performances have reportedly put him in contention for a call-up to the Netherlands national team.

The defender is being tipped to make his international debut following Xavi Hernandez's arrival as manager of the Dutch national team.

Barcelona's interest in Baas comes as Flick continues to assess options to improve his defensive department.

The German manager wants to have more quality and depth at the back, particularly with the demands of competing in domestic and European competitions.

Baas could offer Barcelona additional options because of his versatility, while his height and physical presence are also viewed as attractive qualities.

The Catalan side have reportedly struggled at times against physically strong opponents, particularly when defending set-pieces and aerial balls. The Ajax defender could help address some of those concerns if Barcelona decide to pursue his signature.

However, Baas is not the only defender being considered by the Spanish giants.

The report names Ruud Nijstad, Arthur Dias, Piero Hincapie and Vitor Reis as other potential targets being monitored by Barcelona.

The list suggests that the club are exploring several possibilities before deciding which defender would best suit Flick's requirements.

For now, Barcelona's interest in Baas remains at the monitoring stage, with no official bid or agreement with Ajax reported.

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old could become an interesting option as Barcelona continue their search for defensive reinforcements ahead of future transfer windows.
