Osimhen Scores as Galatasaray Beat Lille 4-2 to Claim First Champions League Victory

According to a report by The Punch on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored as Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League to secure their first victory of the campaign.

The Nigerian forward found the net in the 61st minute, helping the Turkish champions complete an impressive away performance and claim three valuable points. The strike was Osimhen’s first Champions League goal of the season and his seventh across all competitions for Galatasaray.

Galatasaray made an excellent start to the encounter, taking the lead in the second minute through Yunus Akgun, who reacted quickest to a rebound and finished from close range.

However, Lille responded almost immediately, with 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune equalising in the seventh minute. The young forward continued to trouble the visitors and struck again in the 39th minute to complete his brace and put Lille ahead.

Galatasaray fought back before the interval, with Alexey Batrakov heading home Roland Sallai’s cross in the 44th minute to make it 2-2 and ensure the visitors entered the second half on level terms.

After the restart, Galatasaray increased their attacking intensity and regained the lead in the 52nd minute when Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer turned the ball into his own net.

Osimhen then delivered another decisive moment nine minutes later. The striker connected with Baris Yilmaz’s pass during a quick counterattack and fired a first-time effort beyond the goalkeeper to extend Galatasaray’s advantage to 4-2.

The Nigerian international’s goal gave his team greater control of the match, while Lille struggled to find a response during the closing stages.

Despite the hosts’ attempts to get back into the contest, Galatasaray maintained their two-goal cushion until the final whistle to secure an important European victory.

The result represents a significant boost for Galatasaray as they pursue progress in the Champions League. For Osimhen, his goal further underlined his importance to the Turkish side, with the striker continuing to make a valuable contribution to their attacking efforts.
