According to a report by Football London on Friday October 23, 2026, Bukayo Saka has established himself among Europe’s finest wingers, becoming a crucial figure for Arsenal. However, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the England international can improve his attacking game further.
Saka has played a major role in Arsenal’s recent performances, contributing goals, creativity and dangerous dribbling. His latest injury represents a significant setback for Mikel Arteta’s side, highlighting his importance to the team.
Despite the injury concern, Ferdinand believes Saka can reach another level after returning to action. The former England international has identified one particular adjustment that could make the winger considerably more dangerous.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand explained that Saka should make more runs behind opposition defenders instead of depending mainly on receiving possession to feet during attacking situations.
“I look at what the top players do,” Ferdinand remarked, explaining why the Arsenal winger could benefit from changing his movement and becoming more adventurous when attacking defensive spaces.
He continued: “If Saka ran behind to get on it more, he then adds another level to his game where he becomes even more unplayable.” Ferdinand believes this adjustment could transform his threat.
The former defender appreciates Saka’s existing qualities but argues that unpredictable movement would make defending against him more difficult. Such runs could create additional goalscoring opportunities and stretch opposing defensive lines.
Several Premier League wingers have demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach through remarkable goalscoring campaigns. Mohamed Salah, for instance, scored 32 league goals for Liverpool during the 2017/18 season.
Cristiano Ronaldo also registered 31 Premier League goals for Manchester United in 2007/08, while Salah subsequently scored 28 league goals during the 2024/25 campaign, demonstrating his exceptional consistency and attacking instincts.
Other wide forwards, including Sadio Mane, Son Heung-min and Raheem Sterling, have also enjoyed productive seasons through intelligent movement, pace and clinical finishing in dangerous attacking positions.
Saka’s best Premier League return stands at 16 goals during the 2023/24 campaign, suggesting there remains room for improvement. Ferdinand’s advice could help Arsenal’s influential winger become even more decisive.
