According to a report by Flashscore on Friday, October 23, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos were denied a fourth goal against defending champions Korea DPR after Oluwakemi Adegbuyi’s late effort was disallowed following a video review during their final Group B fixture at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The incident occurred in the 88th minute when Adegbuyi appeared to increase Nigeria’s lead. However, after reviewing the play, the referee ruled out the goal because of a foul in the build-up, leaving the score at 3-1.
The decision came at a crucial moment, as Nigeria were seeking a convincing victory that would boost their chances of finishing top of Group B.
The Flamingos had already scored three goals through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Oluebube Umejiaku and Kanyinsola Yusuf, according to the match updates. Their two-goal advantage put them in a promising position, but the disallowed goal prevented them from reaching the four-goal winning margin they were targeting to overtake Korea DPR under the relevant head-to-head calculations.
Nigeria went into the encounter knowing that their final group position could depend on the results involving Korea DPR and Poland. The Nigerian side began the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Poland but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico. Korea DPR, meanwhile, recorded impressive wins over Puerto Rico and Poland, defeating them 6-0 and 6-1 respectively.
These results made the final Group B match particularly significant. If Nigeria, Korea DPR and Poland all finished with six points, their performances against one another would determine their final positions in the group.
Although Nigeria’s 3-1 lead gave them a valuable advantage, the disallowed goal left them short of the margin required to strengthen their position further. The Flamingos therefore had to maintain their attacking pressure while protecting their lead against a dangerous Korean team.
The incident also demonstrated the growing importance of video reviews in major youth football competitions, where a single refereeing decision can affect both the outcome of a match and the final group standings.
For coach Akeem Busari and his players, the main objective remained securing the victory and finishing the group stage on a strong note. Despite Adegbuyi’s late effort being ruled out, Nigeria maintained their two-goal advantage as the match entered its closing stages.
