LaLiga: Barcelona Star Wins Player Of The Match Award After His Goal And Assist Against Real Betis

According to a report by Flashscore on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a convincing 5-2 victory over Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, as Lamine Yamal delivered an outstanding performance to earn the Player of the Match award.

The Spanish winger played a crucial role in the victory, scoring Barcelona’s opening goal before setting up Gabriel Jesus in a match that extended the Catalan club’s winning run to nine league games.

Yamal gave Barcelona the lead with an impressive solo effort, using his close control and movement to create shooting space before curling the ball into the top-right corner.

Real Betis responded through Valentin Gomez, who connected with Pablo Fornals’ delivery from a recycled corner to bring the hosts level. Betis subsequently threatened to take the lead, but goalkeeper Joan Garcia denied Hector Bellerin with an important save.

Barcelona quickly regained control when Rodri rose to head home Fermin Lopez’s corner, restoring the visitors’ advantage at 2-1.

The hosts appeared to have found another equaliser through Giovani Lo Celso, who struck a bouncing ball into the top corner. However, a VAR review ruled out the effort after Cucho Hernandez was penalised for handball in the build-up.

Barcelona continued to create opportunities after the interval, with Fermin forcing an excellent save from Alvaro Valles. Gabriel Jesus also saw an initial effort disallowed for offside before finding the net again shortly afterwards.

Yamal was instrumental in the third goal, providing the pass that allowed Jesus to finish into an unguarded net and increase Barcelona’s lead to 3-1.

Betis refused to surrender, with Abde Ezzalzouli scoring to reduce the deficit to 3-2 and briefly revive hopes of a comeback.

Their chances, however, suffered a major blow when Facundo Bernal was sent off for headbutting Yamal following a confrontation between the players. The dismissal left the home side with 10 men for the remaining 35 minutes.

Barcelona exploited their numerical advantage in the 63rd minute, with Eric Garcia turning Pau Cubarsi’s knockdown into a fourth goal from inside the penalty area.

Dani Olmo then added a fifth in the closing stages, confirming an emphatic win for the visitors and extending their remarkable scoring streak. Barcelona also matched a club record by scoring at least three goals in nine consecutive matches.

Yamal’s goal and assist proved decisive in the contest, underlining his growing influence in Barcelona’s attack. His contribution earned him the Player of the Match recognition as the Catalan giants continued their impressive run at the top of Spanish football.
