EPL Table After Manchester City Lost 1-0

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 31, 2026, Brighton secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, handing the home side a disappointing defeat in their latest Premier League encounter.

Yasin Ayari scored the decisive goal in the 11th minute after Brighton punished City's defensive vulnerability with a well-executed attacking move.

The visitors made an early statement and took the lead when Maxim De Cuyper opted against shooting from a promising position and instead found Ayari. The midfielder showed composure to guide a precise effort into the bottom-right corner, leaving Gianluigi Donnarumma with little chance of stopping it.

Manchester City attempted to respond immediately and created several opportunities to equalise. Iliman Ndiaye came close in the 22nd minute after meeting Elliot Anderson's lofted delivery, but his header narrowly missed the target. Ndiaye also tested Bart Verbruggen three minutes later, although the Brighton goalkeeper produced an important save.

Erling Haaland struggled to find space against Brighton's organised defence, with one of his efforts blocked inside the penalty area. Josko Gvardiol also wasted an opportunity from a corner as City's attacking pressure failed to produce an equaliser before the interval.

Brighton remained dangerous after the restart. Maxim De Cuyper missed a promising opportunity before forcing Donnarumma into a save with a header in the 54th minute. However, City gradually increased their attacking intensity.

Verbruggen became increasingly important to Brighton's defensive efforts. He produced an excellent save to deny Ndiaye in the 52nd minute, with the ball striking the post afterwards. He also stopped Matheus Nunes and Haaland during another dangerous attacking sequence.

City introduced Rayan Cherki, Nico O'Reilly and Phil Foden in search of a breakthrough. However, Brighton continued to resist their pressure. Abdukodir Khusanov and O'Reilly both came close to scoring late in the game, but Verbruggen remained impressive.

Despite five minutes of added time, Manchester City could not find a way through. Craig Pawson eventually brought the contest to an end, confirming a valuable away victory for Brighton.
