Nigeria’s Flamingos have reached the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final for the first time, beating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final in Morocco.
Channels Television reported on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that Nigeria took control after a goalless first half, delivering a strong attacking performance after the break.
Queen Joseph put the Flamingos ahead in the 56th minute, finishing a pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi. Nigeria continued to press, and Joseph turned provider in the 71st minute, setting up Awawu Bashiru to double the lead. Bashiru scored again nine minutes later, converting Oluebube Umejiaku’s pass to make it 3-0.
Brazil pulled one back in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, assisted by Yasmin Queiroz, but Nigeria held on to secure the win.
The result takes Nigeria beyond their previous best finish of third place, achieved in 2022. They will face Japan in Saturday’s final after Japan defeated defending champions North Korea in the other semi-final.
The Flamingos’ run has been especially impressive after they opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Poland. They recovered with wins over Puerto Rico and North Korea, then eliminated Mexico in the round of 16 and Venezuela in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria now have the chance to claim their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title and make further history for the country’s women’s football.
